My Med School Plan and the Video of the Week: Miserably Funny, Kermit Hurts

I'm gonna start with a recap of the day, then move on to my video.

I went shopping today for Memorial Day sale stuff. I ended up picking up a new WD MyBook from Office Depot (500GB for $110 after tax), a new white blazer from Banana Republic (for more than I usually pay...), and two pairs of pants (one from BR, one from Gap). After we finished that we went to UTC and stopped in Nordstrom to try on suits so that my mom could get an idea of what I'm looking for.

I'm prepping for Med School interviews way in advance because it's the only way I'm going to sell myself beyond my random stats. I keep thinking about what there is to do and the plan is really three-fold. The first is to prepare responses to essay prompts as a way to demonstrate a passion for the profession and to submit my primary AMCAS and secondary applications in a timely fashion (like ASAP instead of my usually two days before the deadline). The second step is the prepare for the interview by thinking about common questions, uncommon questions, and my responses to those questions. Without a solid game plan, I'm going to flounder, and I can't afford to screw it up that late in the game. With that in mind, I'm going to practice, prepare, and practice some more on that front. The third step is to look amazing. From the shirt, to the tie, to the suit, to the shoes on my feet, to the haircut. Everything is going to be planned and perfect. That was the purpose of today's trip to Nordstrom.

We went in to get a gauge on my size for the jacket and to figure out some colors and brands (I'm a 36R, but will probably get a 38S and tailor it down to size; I want a black Armani, but the CSR recommended navy or charcoal for a lighter accent). I tried on this ugly pied grey jacket (mostly because it was the only 36R on the rack) and it fit pretty well, besides being ugly. Then I got to the Armani...$1800. It's expensive, but I'm trying to convince my parents that somewhere in the range of $1500 shouldn't be out of the question (especially since it'll likely be my money that goes into it). Like I said before, I've got to look perfect, and it starts with the suit. I've still got to figure out whether I want black or navy, but to be honest, I can't really tell the difference without the colors side-by-side, so it may not matter. The more important issues are the cut, the tailoring, and the accessories. I've been told white or light blue shirt with a yellow tie. I'm not a huge fan of the yellow tie, but I like the idea of a light blue shirt inside a black suit. We'll have to try it out and see...I suppose...

As for the video of the week...I think NIN's Hurt might be one of the best songs ever written. It is so candidly depressing and hauntingly vivid that it demoralizes you in a way that makes you want to do it all over again. This video recaptures a lot of that angst and pain in a cover of the original, sung by a fake Kermit who does things no man should ever have to do...

Enjoy. Unless you object to gay muppet sex, masturbation, and drug abuse. Then look away.
